I feel like the entertainment industry is the dumbest thing to set foot on earth. Yes, I enjoy film, music, and occasionally some sports, but the idea that you can make millions for simply doing a hobby is beyond me. In no world should a basketball player, a man who bounces a ball in a game against other men, be worth a billion dollars. No hate to LeBron James, he is a great player, but all he does is play a game that many children play. That’s like getting paid millions for playing hide-and-go-seek, for being the best hider in every game you play in. I genuinely don’t make sense to me how we got to the point in history where we pay people for playing games or even pretending to be a character. Okay, some skill goes into making music. Yet, the music today is such rubbish that I feel like there’s no skill in it at all. Entertainment has become an easy industry that just allows anyone to step foot inside. Also, the number of people that craze over celebrities is also insane. Why are we screaming and crying over basketball? Grown men crying over a man two-times younger than them playing a sport. TMZ makes a living by placing celebrities on astronomically high pedestals. Why are we following celebrities around and making a big deal over them eating at a restaurant? Who genuinely cares? A ton of people do, that’s the craziest part. I find art to be so important to human nature. It expresses so much that science cannot, and it brings forth curiosity in a person’s soul. But I feel that art has shifted in today’s society to where it’s being taken for granted. Everyone should be able to feel art, but not everyone should be able to become an artist. To be an artist, you have to express yourself in a way that requires skill in a craft. Barely anyone has a skill anymore, and we’re giving fame to people who have no craft. Fame shouldn’t even function the way it does. We should know of your work and enjoy it, but not to the point of crying at your presence. At the end of the day, everyone is just a human. For sports, I truly have no comment on it. I don’t feel like sports should even be paid at the amount they are. I get it, it’s entertainment, but why is Stephen Curry making more than a surgeon? The occupations that bring good to the world make 10x less than the lowest players in the NBA. Bronny James makes more money than a CIA agent, and he isn’t even good at the sport he’s in. I think it’s all dumb, and I feel like that’s why MEGA sport fans always make me cringe. Especially when they’re grown adults with children, selling their entire child’s college fund to buy tickets to every Knicks game. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize how unimportant almost everything is in celebrity culture. I feel like that’s why I’ve recently been so adamant on not being a “fan” of any celebrity. Yes, I really enjoy your music or your movies—but you won’t see any posters of you in my room or see me buying any tickets to see you in person. Of course, unless their tickets are like $50, which doesn’t exist for any artist unless they’re just getting themselves out there and no one knows who they are. The number of celebrities that have been outed this year for doing illegal and heinous crimes is insane. It’s almost like they’re human beings who aren’t innocent just because they’re famous. What makes it worse is that the majority of these celebrities are doing crazy stuff because they have a ton of money and the power to do so. That’s a major reason as to why people need to stop glamorizing and worshiping people with status and money. Anyways, that’s my little rant for today. I hope you enjoyed.
